Here are some FAQ's to help you decide whether an
energy efficient lighting upgrade is for you;

Will our lighting improve?
The simple answer is YES. So many factors effect "lighting quality". In general most installers & designers tend to design lighting systems with just two things in mind. Compliance with minimum light level (LUX) standards and keeping installation costs to a minimum. As a consequence, other more important factors, including light colour and its effect on the human eye, energy efficiency, maintenance & longevity issues, are often overlooked. Our lighting systems produce light of a much higher quality than conventional systems rather than attempting to compensate by just boosting LUX output.

What does it cost, it must be expensive?
Not really. If you haven't already guessed, we are pretty passionate about our lighting systems, so we have priced them to be as attractive to your business as possible - without us going broke in the process! An individually custom tailored site appraisal will provide you with not only your total investment price, it will also give you a snap shot of what your paying now, what you will save and how long it will take before your new system "Pays for Itself" in energy savings

What about the environmental impact?
When you reduce the amount of electricity your business requires to operate you reduce the Carbon Footprint it will leave on our planet. In real terms for every $1,000 saved on your (NSW) energy bill, around 9tonnes fewer CO2 emissions are poured into the atmosphere. That's something you and your employees can & should be proud of! It's also something that can set you apart from your competitors!

What cost savings can we expect?
The simple answer is HUGE. When you consider that most of our lighting upgrades "Pay for Themselves" within the first two years in energy savings alone, you start to get an idea on how much EXTRA you are paying now!

How will we know what we will save?
With every new Energy Efficient Lighting System we install you also get a Before & After Power Analysis. We examine your energy bill, connect our Power Analyser to your electrical system and provide a detailed report including how much power your lights are consuming now & how much they are costing to run. We also examine how close to the "limit" the work area is operating in terms of energy usage. Valuable information when considering future expansions for your business. When we're done and your admiring your new lighting system, we reconnect our Power Analyser and qualify your dollar & CO2. All this is included free as a part of our service.

What about Guarantee’s?
We stand behind the products & systems we install. Our Energy Efficient Lighting Systems are proven technology and are constructed from components of the highest quality designed to give many years of trouble free service. They are far superior to conventional lighting systems your business is relying on now – Guaranteed!

We guarantee the dollar & CO2 savings we specify before we start the installation!
We
guarantee our lights against failure due to defects
in manufacture & workmanship for
3years.
We even
guarantee our light globes against failure due to defects in manufacture & workmanship for 12months.

More reasons to Upgrade Your Lighting System
Lighting accounts for around 30 to 40% of the total energy consumption for most commercial facilities and lighting systems from The Energy Efficient Lighting Company use less than 50% of the energy required to operate most standard lighting systems. As a consequence, a new lighting system from The Energy Efficient Lighting Company can save you over 50% on your lighting costs. Environmentally speaking, if you reduce you energy consumption by 50%, the carbon emissions from the coal fired electricity generator that supplies your electricity, also drops by 50%!

Apart from the obvious financial and environmental benefits, there are also a great deal of additional flow on benefits including;

-
Increased Employee Productivity - Maximum worker productivity cannot be obtained unless the light provided is adequate for the performance of any given task. This fact is documented in numerous studies conduct by universities, private industry and government bodies. It has also been proven time & time again by companies & institutions that have already upgraded to high output energy efficient lighting, and witnessed dramatic productivity increases. Equally dramatic are the productivity drop-offs that result when lighting is downgraded or left not maintained.

- Improved Quality Control - Error detection is a critically important component of any commercial operation. Faulty products or workmanship can sour customer relations and lead to embarrassing product replacements, warranty claims & more work. It is worthwhile to note that the quality of lighting often has the same impact in administrative areas as it has in manufacturing areas.

- Increase Customer Satisfaction - Fewer rejects, higher accuracy levels, less time required to complete tasks and better quality control all help to improve customer satisfaction. It also results in higher productivity, which often affects a company’s ability to keep its prices more competitive, something else that increases customer satisfaction.

- Reduced Accidents and Mistakes - Safety improvements in excess of 20% have been reported as a result of installing high output energy efficient lighting. When there is better lighting, potential hazards become more visible

- Reduced Eye Fatigue and Headaches - Eye fatigue and headaches often are caused by poorly designed or inadequate lighting.

-
Optimised Energy Usage - Our energy efficient lighting systems optimise the energy they consume. In other words, all the energy is put to good use with minimal waste. This benefit often has "contaguous" productivity effects. As an example, in a factory, when the number of rejects & rework is minimised, less energy is consumed to produce the same number of acceptable products. When productivity increases, more is produced with the same amount of energy.

- Enhanced Corporate Image - Corporate Image is developed whenever someone comes into contact with something that represents a company. The image that employees have of a company is improved when management demonstrates a commitment to employee safety and security, while also improving the work environment. The image that customers have of a company is improved when the quality of a company’s products or services is improved. Corporate Image is often a highly important concern when physical facilities are experienced by clients, potential clients, suppliers, prospective employees and the community. In such cases the appearance of administrative & work areas can be very important. The effective use of high output energy efficient lighting can enhance this appearance considerably.

- Increase Sales - Improved productivity, fewer rejects, faster delivery, increased customer satisfaction, less downtime, lower costs and an enhanced corporate image also leads to the sales and more profits!

The Coming Revolution in Lighting Practice
by SAM BERMAN
Research on vision suggests that we have more to learn about the eye and energy efficiency. Many engineering and architectural texts contain an incorrect view of how the eye deals with light. In these texts one encounters the correct statement that our eyes have two types of photoreceptors, namely cones and rods, along with the erroneous statement that the cones are responsible for day vision and the rods responsible for night vision. Vision scientists have long known that this segregation of day and night vision is overly simplistic. Nevertheless, until some recent efforts by two pragmatic scientists, the significance of a better understanding of the workings of the eye for lighting practice and lighting energy efficiency had been entirely overlooked.

The figure compares photopic and scotopic sensitivity and charts their ratio.

Over the last decade, a series of experiments sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy showed that rods play a role in vision in lighting conditions typical of the workplace. The tests took place in realistic environments with typical interior lighting and task conditions. The tests showed that both vision and lighting energy efficiency would be improved if lighting practice accounted for the role of the rods in performing tasks in the workplace.
The two scientists, Dr. Sam Berman and Dr. Don Jewett, combined their disparate scientific backgrounds to demonstrate unequivocally the active role of rods in vision at typical interior light levels. Berman is a physicist and senior scientist emeritus, former head of the lighting group at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. Jewett is a neurophysiologist and professor Emeritus at the University of California Medical Center.
Together they used infrared technology to show that rods primarily controlled the opening and closing of the pupil of the eye. Subsequently, in separate studies, they demonstrated that the perception of room brightness was significantly influenced by rod contributions. They also showed that pupil size, as controlled by the spectrum of the room lighting, was a factor in visual performance under workplace lighting conditions.
The benefits of these conclusions are easy to capture with lighting already in catalogs of the major lamp manufacturers. Nevertheless, mainstream lighting practice has essentially ignored the new findings. In fact, the same simplistic segregation of rod and cone vision is explicitly repeated in the latest edition of the IES Lighting Handbook. In spite of this, some forward-thinking practitioners are applying the new principles to provide better and more efficient lighting in major facilities
